Illa Manila: The Filipino American Streetwear Brand Redefining Fashion with Filipino Culture
Founded by Raibyn Cabiling, the former Art Director for skateboarding at Vans and Converse, Illa Manila emerged from a realization: the lack of Filipino representation in streetwear. This vision led Cabiling to leave his job and start a homegrown brand that truly embodies his Filipino upbringing.
Illa Manila has set itself apart with its distinct collections that integrate Filipino cultural references. From designs inspired by traditional cockfighting and the Filipino sun to the iconic balisong (butterfly knife), each piece is a tribute to Filipino traditions. Notably, the brand introduced the Barongorak—a modern twist on the traditional Barong Tagalog—which became an instant hit, selling out shortly after its release.
But Illa Manila is more than just a clothing line. The brand has also established a skate team in the Philippines, highlighting local talent on the global stage. Mak Feliciano, one of their standout riders, clinched a silver medal at the 2019 SEA Games, showcasing the brand's commitment to promoting Filipino athletes.
Illa Manila's influence even extends into music, with collaborations featuring rising Fil-Am rappers like Rocky G and Ruby Ibarra. Their project, “Young, Gifted and Brown,” was filmed entirely in the Philippines by their skate team, blending music, culture, and streetwear seamlessly.
What sets Illa Manila apart is its dedication to celebrating Filipino culture while embracing a global audience. The brand hopes to resonate with anyone connected to the Filipino community, at any age, from anywhere in the world.
