LOS ANGELES (June 21st, 2024) — If your immigrant parents are forced to sit down and hear your childhood traumas, would they listen? This mental health series explores that. One Down releases a trailer for their newest series Trauma Bond, with participants from the Filipino community, raw and unfiltered.

This new show is all about confronting generational trauma and discussing mental health, starting with Filipino mothers and daughters who have faced the same struggles. Mental health is still stigmatized and many Filipino Americans struggle with having conversations related to it with their parents. Because of that, One Down embraces the complexities of Filipino mental health with Trauma Bond.

“Representation doesn't just mean being "seen" on screen. We want to be seen and heard for the nuances that make us who we are - and as difficult as that may be, it includes our relationships with our parents, and especially our traumas,” says Leo Albea, CEO of One Down. “This is what we want to leave with the world - and that it's ok to talk about it.”

The series features Filipino mother-daughter duos revisiting how their parents traumatized them growing up through questions like “What is the most hurtful thing your mom has told you?” or “What were your parents like?” The program structure has the daughters answer, then read their mom’s answer. If you’ve ever experienced hardship with your parents but couldn’t find yourself having this conversation with them, this is the show to watch.

“We heard hundreds of stories from the community and wanted to make space for families to speak on their uncomfortable truths in an unfiltered manner,” Jomarie Calasanz, Casting Coordinator, says. “Being able to witness the raw and honest conversations on set was a beautiful experience that made me want to learn more about my parents - definitely a tear-jerker!”

Mental health is not talked about enough in the Filipino community, so we’re screaming it at the top of our lungs (metaphorically, of course), and we hope the community will hear it and do the same. Though our cast grew up in different contexts, this series allows them to share their similarities and differences. This is Trauma Bond. Can we get through this?
